A Review of the Mass of the Holy Spirit: October 14

By Keira Locricchio, Senior

The Mass of the Holy Spirit this past October was a beautiful way to welcome in the start of a new school year! This Mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Detroit and was dedicated to the students and faculty of Chesterton Academy. It was truly an amazing experience, especially as a student, to be a part of this Mass through singing in the choir. It was truly an honor and was so uplifting to sing along with my fellow Chesterton students in praising God in all His goodness. We have all connected so beautifully with our voices in a short time and with little time to practice. Many of us students have little to no experience singing in a choir and it could only be through the power of the Holy Spirit that our voices harmonized beautifully. Throughout the whole Mass and even afterward during the reception, there was a sense of unity and togetherness among the students and their families.

This Mass was special because the homily was directed towards the students, faculty, and parents. Father Ward’s advice mirrored the readings and gave us a roadmap to success. This Mass was also special because the students and staff make a vow, in front of the school community, to uphold living a virtuous and faith-filled life. This is something you don't see at many schools at this time! It's beautiful to go to a school based around such a strong faith because how can it fail when it has the strongest foundation that there is: Christ. This Mass was a great way to kick off the school year by reminding the students what their education is really about and how everything is centered around faith, including in our classes.
