March for Life Testimonials and Photos!

On January 21, 2022, a group of 10 Chesterton students, Headmaster Mr. Mitchell, and math/science teacher Mr. Pawlowski, along with the group from Right to Life LIFESPAN that they traveled with, marched in Washington, DC, with thousands of other pro-life advocates. The event, of course, was the annual March for Life, a peaceful march to commemorate the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which enshrined abortion as a “right” on January 22, 1973. Over 60 million innocent unborn children have been aborted in the United States since that day 49 years ago. The pro-life movement works to make abortion unthinkable, both in individual hearts and in the law. Our Chesterton Academy motto is “Cultura Vitae” - “culture of life.” We are truly a mission and a community that values life from the moment of conception to natural death. The March for Life is a beautiful, impactful experience that often reinvigorates the marchers’ passion and motivation to stand for life each and every day of the year.

Here is what some of our Chesterton students who participated in the March for Life had to say about the experience:

“My experience on the March for Life was great from start to finish - not necessarily easy or fun, but great. All of the Marchers were loaded onto the bus on the evening before the March. Prayers were said, movies were watched, and jokes were made, all of which prepared our group for the March. The March itself offered a great opportunity for the cultivation of many virtues. This opportunity was made even more fruitful because of the unfortunate weather conditions in DC. In the end, the March was a success because of the great leadership of Mr. Mitchell, as well as all the great speakers during the rally, and because of all the work done to organize the event.” -Peyton Smith, Senior

“The trip was amazing. Our group attended Mass and an interdenominational prayer rally in the morning, then walked to the March for Life. There were many speakers: some of whom had almost been aborted, some who had had an abortion themselves, and all of whom were inspirational. It was indeed a moving experience. I had been on my feet all morning, even before we marched, but the purpose of the event and the hope and faith which everyone had that abortion would be made illegal were awe-inspiring. There were so many people that, after the speakers were done and the marching started, we barely moved for about ten minutes. Overall the trip was outstanding!” -Oliver Smith, Sophomore

“The bus trip was fun, but I think the first break should be at least 15 minutes longer! I felt very uplifted by how many people were there and the good Christian music that was being played. The talks that were given were also very inspiring. “ -Christopher Bueche, Sophomore

“I really enjoyed the March for Life event that our school went to. I’m glad that I went through Chesterton because it afforded me opportunities that I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise, and going with people from school was much more fun. I felt safe in the groups we operated in, and I was extremely thankful for our bus drivers and the event organizers. I had a great time and would love to see how much better the trip would be made if it wasn’t inhibited by Covid restrictions.” -Naomi Finkel, Sophomore

“The March for Life in Washington, DC, was an interesting experience. We got to see the Washington monument and the Supreme Court, as well as the Capitol Building from afar. The most important part was definitely marching for all the babies.” -Stephen Chase, Sophomore
