An Affordable Education

Tuition & Fees

Chesterton Academy is committed to offering an outstanding high school education at an affordable cost to families.

Tuition for the 2024-25 academic year is $7,500. Our book and activities fee is $500 per student.

Because tuition does not cover the total cost of an education at Chesterton, families are expected to assist and volunteer at our yearly major fundraising efforts.

There is no application fee to apply to Chesterton Academy! Enrollments

A $250 registration fee and a $500 book fee are due upon enrollment.

Financial Aid

We are committed to making Chesterton Academy affordable, even for families who have modest incomes or challenging financial situations. Chesterton Academy utilizes the services of TADS to help us collect information to offer financial aid based on a family’s particular circumstances, like medical bills, multiple tuitions, or other special circumstances. The student application process must be completed in full before being considered for financial aid, although families apply for the school and financial aid at the same time. We also offer merit-based scholarships, please inquire during enrollment.

TADS does charge a $42 fee for the financial aid application. This fee pays for the processing and auditing of your application.

Families who want to be considered for Financial Aid should not delay in filing an application.

Placement Exam

All freshman students and other students who have not completed any standardized testing are required to take a placement exam as part of the application and enrollment process. The placement exam is used as a diagnostic tool to ensure students are placed in the appropriate section of mathematics, and to help identify areas of academic strengths and opportunities for growth.

Chesterton Academy administers the Classic Learning Text 8 as its placement exam for incoming freshmen. The placement exam covers:

  • Verbal reasoning skills

  • Grammar and writing skills

  • Quantitative reasoning skills

Our Headmaster can administer the CLT 8 at your convenience after your have completed your application to Chesterton Academy—there are no fixed testing dates. The cost of the paper version of the exam is $22. Your exam can be graded on site while you wait. The CLT 8 is also available to take online, but the cost may be different.

During a special ceremony at our summer family picnic, new students draw a house name and are welcomed by their new housemates. Siblings are typically assigned to the same house, unless otherwise requested. Once a house has been chosen for a student, they will remain in that house until they graduate.

+ Will Chesterton accept transfer students?

Chesterton Academy welcomes transfer students each year who come from public, private, homeschool, and online high school environments. Our Headmaster works closely with each transfer student to ensure their success as they transition to Chesterton.

+ What will the homework policy be?

Chesterton Academy works to limit assigned homework to an hour and a half of homework per evening. We seek to be efficient in the learning process such that students have time in the evenings to spend with their family and to commit to extracurricular activities and after-school jobs. We also build the class schedule to include free periods to accommodate our students. They may use this time to study or to take a break as needed.

Preparing for Your First Day

+ What kind of transportation will be available?

The school facilitates carpooling by connecting families that live near each other. If distance or transportation is an issue for your family, please contact us and we will let you know what options are avaible with our present families for future carpooling.

+ What will your uniform policy be?

The tradition of school uniforms goes back to Medieval times when caps and gowns were required at universities. Thus, all students regardless of background would dress alike, and all would show an outward sign of their dedication to the task of learning together within the university community. In other words, from the very beginning, uniforms have been in support of three goals: modesty, professionalism, and community, or school spirit. Our uniform policy aims at the same three goals. We will inform all of families prior to the start of school as to where uniforms can be purchased.

+ Will Chesterton require summer reading?

Chesterton students are required to read one to two classical works over the summer each year. Reading assignments and study guides are made available to students over the summer or prior to the end of the school year. All students will have a quiz on their assigned book within the first week of the school year in their literature class.

+ Will a school supply list be given out?

The school supply list is released in July together with details on summer reading assignments.

+ When is student and parent orientation?

We will be having both a student and parent orientation in August before the beginning of school. Check back regularly here to find out exact dates and times.
